In August of 2022, the announcement of The Starling Co. as the Equality State's first Drag and Theatre production company shook local, state, and even national headlines. Their inaugural run of shadowcast screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show was a hit - even inspiring a heated protest (the first of several) at a Rock Springs City Council meeting.
Later that December, the Company took it a step further by bringing their first annual "Drag Me to.." New Year's Eve event to life. The Cast and Crew consisted of original, Queer artists originating from Sweetwater County and as far away as the Salt Lake Valley of Utah. It was the beginning of a cultural revolution for our little corner of rural America.
Since then, we've had the honor of producing 30+ events for audiences around Wyoming (Rock Springs, Casper, Laramie, and Jackson) and in Salt Lake City. Additional community building opportunity led us to be featured as guest artists in events produced by other companies in those same locations, in addition to events in Lander, Gillette, Cheyenne, Georgia, South Carolina, and - most recently - Colorado.
It has been our honor, as artists and as individuals, to serve our beautiful community thus far. We are simply doing our part to make this a better place to call "Home" - by picking up the torch ignited by the resiliant, Queer elders that came before us. We owe it all to their visibility, vulnerability, and Wyoming-bred stubbornness.
The Starling Co. is dedicated to creating artistic opportunity, amplifying marginalized stories and voices, and providing high-quality entertainment for our community. Raising the standard for integrity and professionalism in the performing arts, and further establishing a culture of LOVE and KINDNESS for the Equality State.
We further pursue these goals by being 1 of only 3 production companies in Wyoming that pays all artists involved in its operations.
